For many people, one of the hardest things to deal with when having a sciatica nerve problem is finding the right sciatica pain relief. In fact, for many people finding the right sciatica pain relief is almost impossible!

Most often when people/patients are first diagnosed with having a sciatica nerve problem, they are usually given a few different options as to dealing with the pain and what type of sciatica pain relief they can get.

However, many times people will try to explore things on their own; especially when it comes to their bodies.

Before a person can actually start to take anything for sciatica pain relief, they must first ask themselves which way they want to get treated. By that, people must choose between conventional techniques or using all-natural, herbal techniques.

For each technique there are both pros and cons; as many people have used both techniques. In fact, many times there have been people that have used one technique and ended up switching over to the other technique. Also, it is very important to know that one technique is not any better than the other; it’s just a matter of how you want to do things.

If you are a person that does not like to take any type of medication, then the best solution for sciatica pain relief is to first try mind and body exercises. Other than trying everyday exercises, Pilates and yoga is a great form of exercise as well. In fact, many people find that Pilates and yoga is better than regular exercising because it does focus on both the mind and body; at the same time.

When it comes to taking pills, there are two different ways to going around that. First, you can take doctor prescribed medication or you can take all natural/herbal supplements. When deciding that, you must think of what is best for you; as there are several things to worry/think about.

When taking medication through a doctor, there is not much of anything to go around. In fact, there are many different things that a doctor can prescribe for sciatica pain relief. However, if you are interested in trying herbal, all-natural products out; there are also many different things that you can try.

The only difference between the herbal and doctor prescribed medication is that the herbal products do not harm your body in any way; where as the prescribed medication does.

Because everybody does not have health insurance, there are also many different ways that people can get sciatica pain relief, as well. In fact, many things are the same things that you would do/use on a daily basis! Some of the different things that you can do/ use are take an anti-inflammatory tablet, put a pillow under your knees when you sleep, eat at least 2 servings of fruit a day, get plenty of rest, use a firm mattress, get plenty of exercise, and apply an analgesic to the pained area.

No matter what you try, whether it is natural or prescribed, it will be worth it in the end; especially if you get some sort of sciatica pain relief!

Sciatica is a term used to describe a problem with the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is a large nerve that starts at the lower back and runs down the back part of each leg.

It is responsible for the movement of the muscles in the back of the lower leg and knees. It also is what gives you feeling in the back of your thigh, your lower leg and sole of the feet. Symptoms of sciatica are numbness, weakness or tingling.

Although, it’s usually only on one side of your body and starts in your lower back, it can affect your thighs, calf, foot or your toes.

Many people don’t fully understand sciatica and don’t realize they are victims of sciatica because of where the pain is located. The majority of their pain may be in their thigh or calf and assume they have a problems with their legs rather than the sciatic nerve in their back.

In some situations, sciatica may go away on its own, but it often needs medicine, exercises or possible surgery. Although at times, doctors can’t find a cause for sciatica, it my come from a pelvic fracture, ruptured intervertebral disc or spinal stenosis.

Some of the symptoms of sciatica are different changes in the sensation you feel in the back of the thigh, calf or sole of your feet such as tingling, numbness or a burning sensation.

These are usually the first signs that something is wrong. Any sensations that are abnormal may be signs of sciatica, especially if they are mixed with pain. The pain may start minor and become severe or vice versa.

In some of the more severe cases of sciatica, the patient may experience inability to move the feet or bend their knees along with having trouble walking.

Patients are usually diagnosed with sciatica after seeing a doctor for pain in the lower back that extends downward. The doctor will first run blood tests, take X-rays as well as MRIs or EMGs.

Nerve conduction tests to determine nerve damage are also taken.

Treatment of sciatica may vary depending on the severity of the illness. The first part of the treatment involves pinpointing the exact cause of the nerve disorder.

In some cases that are minor, there will be little or conservative treatment. They will only do this if there appears to be little or not trauma to the area or no degeneration of the nerve area.

If the sciatica is caused from a herniated disc, they may choose to remove the parts that are putting pressure on the nerve. Other forms of treatment for sciatica are injections to reduce an inflammation near the nerve or pain relievers. Physical therapy may also be recommended in some cases to help rebuild the strength of the muscles.

In many cases, sciatica will heal on its own in a few days or sometimes week. There are times, however, when the patient will have bouts of pain or recurring flare-ups of sciatic pain.

If this happens, it’s probably a sign that some sort of sciatic treatment should be initiated. Pain from the sciatic nerve can be dull and occasional to a intense throbbing pain if the sufferer experiences too much pain, they should definitely get started on sciatic treatment. In some cases, a simple and regular exercise program with pain management methods are what the patient needs.

In more severe cases, the patient may require physical therapy or possibly surgery.

Most people do not want surgery when they have sciatica and are willing to do almost any kind of sciatic treatment they need to so they can avoid having surgery. There are a few different types of non-surgical treatment methods available to the sciatica sufferer.

One of the first steps in the sciatica treatment is in determining the exact cause of the sciatica pain.

Heat and/or ice can be very helpful in relieving pain in the legs, especially in the beginning stages of the disorder. Although some use ice in the very beginning, many seen to find that heat makes them feel better.

You may also want to try alternating between the two. Whether it’s heat or ice that is used for sciatica treatment, it should only be used for 20 minutes at a time every few hours.

Different kinds of medications are available as sciatica treatment for the individuals affected with sciatica.

For the flare-ups of pain, many over-the-counter medications are available. You may also want to get some anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, to help reduce inflammation, which can also increase the sciatica pain. Many patients find an epidural steroid injection to be quite helpful in relieving the pain or reduce inflammation.

The difference between the injections and the oral medications is the injections go right into the area of the pain and begin to work almost immediately. The relief may last up to a year.

In addition to the typical sciatica treatment, there is several alternative type of treatments available such as acupuncture, chiropractic manipulation and massage therapy.

Acupuncture deals with the idea of maintaining good health by way of keeping the open flow of energy throughout the body. It is believed with sciatica that that energy pathways are blocked, which is what causes the pain. With acupuncture, fine little needles are inserted in the area of the pain and left there for a few minutes. These needles are believed to open up the pathways allowing energy to flow freely through.

Massage Therapy has been very helpful sciatica treatment for relieving pain, increasing blood circulation, relaxing the muscles and helping to release endorphins in the body, which are the natural pain relievers of the body.

Manual manipulation by chiropractors and physical therapists often work wonderful towards helping to relieve the pain. Therapy should only be done by a qualified specialist, but should be done on a regular basis.
